"...A massive, but well-preserved wooden ship is lying in shallow waters of the bay off Sulawesi in western Sulawesi island, on the southernmost tip of Sumatra island in Indonesia. When discovered at 9:45 AM on August 24, 2015, the ship is of exceptional size, weighing about 10,000 tons and with a total length of about 18 m. It was recovered from waters off Sulawesi island about 15 km east of the southern coast city of Tangerang.


The wreck, which is surrounded by dense vegetation and a large sandbar, was discovered by marine surveyors who found it near the island of Sulawesi in Sumatra island, just outside the island of Java. A number of witnesses identified the ship as the remains of a large ancient wooden vessel with a mast on it.


The ship was completely covered with vegetation and there were many signs of damage by weather. Also, there were a large number of human bones scattered all along the ship, including some on the mast, and some on the deck of the hull.


There was also evidence that the ship was in bad shape. The ship had already been sunk seven times prior and had suffered a number of damage before the discovery was made," the report adds.


The Australian Maritime Safety Authority announced the discovery and said that it would provide assistance to the Indonesian authorities. "We appreciate the need for immediate and ongoing expert advice as this case is in relation to the most significant sunken ship in Indonesian waters," the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMPSA) statement said.
